We have watched a few video clips of whales in class. Here is one of our favourites.

Today your child brought home an information notice about a parent meeting coming up on January 28 at 5:30. At the meeting, Mrs. Mitchell and I will be sharing exciting changes to reporting to parents through the use of Freshgrade, an online digital portfolio of your child. We are encouraging all parents to attend this meeting. Please fill out the bottom part of this notice, cut it and return it to school as soon as possible.
Today in science we got a good idea of just how big whales are. We found out from a book that belugas are 4 m., orcas are 9 m. and blue whales are 26 m. Then we went out to the hallway with the giant measuring tape. We measured and marked out with tape for each whale. Then we laid head to foot along the tape to compare the size of a whale to the size of a grade one. It took 22 grade ones to make one blue whale!
Today we got some help with our research project from our big buddies in Ms. Wylie's class. They helped us think of a good word for "big". We are using the facts we learned to write a story about our whale. Yesterday and today we took our turn for grounds clean up. We used special tongs to pick up garbage from around the school. We wish that kids would not litter! |
