Today we celebrated our 100th day of school. We started the morning with 100 claps, 100 stomps, 100 jumps and 100 seconds of silence! The children brought 100 edible treats that were counted and added to our 100 Day Stew. We all had a turn to stir then we shared the treats for snack. I also took a photo of every child then they each had a turn with the iPad to transform their photo into how they might look when they are 100 years old. Check out some very funny old-timers!
We got busy this week preparing for Valentine's Day. We made our pouches and planned the treats for the valentine party. If you child has their valentine cards ready, please send them in as soon as possible to save a big rush on the last day. We will have our party in the afternoon of the 14th. Also, remember that Wednesday is our 100th day and each child is asked to bring 100 edible treats in a baggie labelled with their name. Here we are making our pouches. We also had a visit from Sheriff Woody this week!
This month I have introduced a couple of BIG ideas for reading and writing. Flyswatters with holes cut make great reading windows for big books. I have also added the Smartboard as a publishing option for children's writing. They can now choose to publish their writing using the "olden days typewriter" (yes, I have an old manual typewriter in the room), the Alphasmart, computer and now the Smartboard. To publish on the Smartboard, the child types their writing first then searches the image gallery, internet or files on my desktop for pictures to accompany their writing. Then they can go up to the board and add drawing to their page with the pen tools. This has become a very popular publishing option. Also, check out some new pictures on our pictures page.
Our focus this month will be on friends and families. We will be having a Valentine party in the afternoon of February 14. Your child has volunteered to bring something to share at the party. Please check the notice sent home Monday to see what your child is bringing. Your child will still need a recess snack and lunch on that day. I have also sent home a list of the children’s names for printing on their Valentine cards. If you are sending cards, please be sure to include all the children to avoid any hurt feelings. Your child may also wish to include a Valentine card for for Ms Nemec, Ms. Litke, Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Clayton, Mr. Parson or Mr. O’Brien.
