We had lots of fun celebrating Halloween at school. We all came in our costumes and went to an assembly in the gym. Then we enjoyed lots of Halloween treats and played some Halloween games. Ask your child how to play Musical Pumpkins or Pumpkins and Ghosts.
We had some fun with pumpkins today. Below is a video of one of our dramatizations of "Five Little Pumpkins". We also met with our big buddies in Ms. Wylie's class to decorate a tiny pumpkin. Thanks to Mrs. Harrison for donating the tiny pumpkins. Today was a busy day. In guided reading we started using our new magical reading glasses. Then we had an earthquake drill where we had to duck under the tables. After recess each child had a turn to paint two pictures on their t-shirt. Thanks to Felix' and Trayden's moms who came to help. Remember we are off to the pumpkin patch tomorrow. Just a reminder to the parents who are driving to Aldor Acres this Wednesday, that I need your completed volunteer driver form as well as a copy of your driver's licence and your current insurance document no later than Tuesday. Also, parents who are not driving are required to send along their child's booster seat on Wednesday. Children without booster seats cannot be transported on school trips. Thanks.
Today I introduced a new routine called Math Entry Activities. Each week there will be four different math activities from a variety of math strands placed on each of the four tables in the classroom. When the children come in from recess, they go straight to their table and begin playing their activity for that day. These activities review a concept already covered in a previous lesson. They play for a short time then we clean them up and begin our new math lesson for the day. The next day, the activities are rotated to a different table so each child gets an opportunity to play all four of the activities. Today in science we learned about the life cycle of the pumpkin. First we put the stages in order on the Smartboard, then we coloured and cut out pictures of the stages. We sequenced the stages and attached them to a "vine" and tucked it into the pumpkin pocket. Thanks to Umber's mom who came to help today. We are fortunate to have the assistance of my friend Sara who is a university student who wants to be a teacher .She's been coming on Wednesday mornings to help out with the class. We also tried some new Halloween math games today. Today we practiced printing the numeral 4 on the white boards. While the grade ones were doing their 4's in their math books, the kindergarten children made a 4 in a pattern on the floor. Then they made a 4 with their legs! Then we all finished the pattern on the pumpkin. |
