Today we had fun with two special projects. First we painted two pictures on our t-shirts. We put on a light bulb for November as a reminder of our study of light and sound. For December we painted a Christmas tree with glitter and a star on our shirts. After recess we had a visit from two artists who helped us make a papier mache Christmas tree. They will take two weeks to dry then we will paint them with glow in the dark paint.
Today we prepared our Santa advent picture. Starting December 1 we will be adding one cotton ball to Santa's beard to help count the days til Christmas Eve. I have been encouraging the children to add comments to our website. They will need parent help for this so I hope you can assist them. Your private email is never shared. Every child who writes a comment gets to put a dinosaur in the jar the next day.
Every Monday we go to the gym for Fun Fitness lead by Ms. Aulin. Here we are today doing "Hey Baby".
Today we spent some time reflecting on our own learning. Each child was asked to look through some of their work from this term and think about things they feel they are good at and something they would like to get better at. I gave them post it notes to mark their choices. Then we gathered with our big buddies in Ms. Wylie's class and shared our work with them. The big buddies guided their partners and scribed for them. The children's learning reflections will become part of this term's report card.
Today in the gym we finished our unit on aiming a ball at a target. We used rhino skin balls and plastic skittles. The children worked together with their partner taking turns rolling the ball to try and knock down the skittle. Each game is only one minute long and they keep track of their points. Today we played for 1000 points every time we knocked down the skittle!
We had a great visit to the public library today. We sang songs, listened to stories and signed out books with our very own library cards. Parents keep in mind that you are responsible for returning those books to the public library on or before the due date printed on the receipt. Also, just a reminder that whenever we go on field trips you need to send your child's booster seat to school. Several parents forgot to send them today.
Today at centres I introduced two old fashioned games. I showed the children how to play "Pick Up Sticks" and "Snakes and Ladders". They were very big hits today. Playing games with dice at home will help strengthen your child's sense of number. Remember we are going to the Guildford Public Library tomorrow afternoon. If you sent me an application, your child's library card will be at the library for them. If your child already has a library card, please remember to send it to school tomorrow. Also, if you are not driving, you will need to send your child's booster seat. Drivers, please come to the classroom at 12:30. Thanks. |
