Today we had fun with our friends in Mrs. Mitchell's and Mrs. Sladek's classes. We put the children in groups from all three classes and rotated through five Christmas craft stations. We made paper cone trees, fun foam door hangers, Hershey's Kisses mice ornaments, snowman photo Christmas cards and star shaped Santas. Thanks to the parents who helped with the crafts.

Today we were very excited when our secretary, Mrs. Dumas, burst through our door wearing her coat and gloves and carrying a big basket. She said she just heard a loud bang and the jingling of bells at the office. When she rushed to the door to see what it was, she found this big basket full of ice cold letters direct from the North Pole.
She knew they had to be for the grade one's. All the children in our class got a personalized letter from Santa. Mrs. Dumas, Mrs. Martin and Megan helped me read the letters to the children. After we put the letters in our backpacks, Ethan said he looked out the window and saw a red flashing light and a streak of brown in the sky! We had a great day at Grouse Mountain on Friday. The children enjoyed the tram ride to the top. Once we were on the mountain, we visited Prancer the reindeer, watched the movie "Born to Fly", built snowmen and had a snow picnic. The highlight for sure was sliding down the snowy hill. Thanks to the many parents who accompanied us on this wonderful trip. Here is the link to the Grouse Mountain website.
The Christmas excitement is starting to build in our class. In the last few days, we have created a Santa advent picture where we pull off one of Santa's whiskers each day to help us count the days til Christmas. We also secretly wrote about and illustrated our favourite Christmas tradition. The pictures were covered with papers numbered 1 to 24. Each day, we reveal a new picture and the child who created it comes up and tells everyone about their favourite tradition. We made reindeer with big red balloons for noses and we used green painted hands to make beautiful Christmas trees. We also wrote letters to Santa then we all walked together to the neighbourhood mailbox to send them off. |
