Today we held our annual Terry Fox Run at Dogwood. We had a warm up in the gym and then went outside on a scavenger hunt to find a table for each of Canada's provinces and territories. Then in the afternoon we went out for a leaf walk looking for leaves that were red, yellow, orange, green and brown.

Today we celebrated Andrew's birthday and made some awesome patterns in math. Remember that tomorrow is our Terry Fox Run so make sure your child wears running shoes to school. Dogwood is also recognizing "Orange Shirt Day" so your child may wish to wear an orange shirt to school tomorrow.
Parents, did you know that Dogwood is part of the "Litterless Lunch" initiative endorsed by the Surrey School District? Parents are asked to send their child's lunch and snack in re-useable containers rather than pre-packaged foods. We have an organic a bin at school for apple cores, banana peels, etc. All other lunch garbage will be sent home. Thanks in advance for your co-operation in this program.
This Friday is our school wide Terry Fox event. I am looking for a couple of parents who would be able to give a hand on that day. I am looking for someone who can walk with children in our class to ensure safety. Toddlers and babies are welcome. Please put a note in your child's Home Reading Book if you can help.
We had a busy day today. We celebrated Kirra's birthday and made two colour patterns in the morning. Then we met our Big Buddies in Mrs. Deamer and Mrs. Iwagami's grade four class. Remember that Monday is a pro-d day so there is no school for children. Have a great weekend!
Just to let parents know, we have purchased colourful gym shoe bags for every child in the class. The cost of the grade one planners was less than the $5 that we collected so we used the excess funds to purchase the bags. I have printed your child's name on the bag in fabric paint so it is theirs to keep.
Tonight is Meet the Teacher Night at Dogwood. Parents are invited to come to the classroom with their child between 6:00 and 7:00 to say hello and have your child show you around the classroom. I look forward to seeing you all tonight. We also opened the paint centre today!
Today your child brought home their planner and Home Reading books along with some notices. There is an explanation of the Home Reading routine inside. The blue notice from the office needs to be checked off and signed. I strongly encourage you to check "yes" on the blue form so that I can include your child on this website. Please send these back to school tomorrow.
Today in science we reviewed how germs from our hands can be transferred to others. To demonstrate this, I sprinkled glitter(fake germs) onto one child's hand. Then he went around the circle and shook hands with every other child. We found out that everyone got a bit of glitter on their hands too. To help them remember, the children recorded their learning in their drawing books. First they copied the sentence, "I wash my hands." Then they worked with a partner to trace their hand, colour it and spread a little glue in the middle. To finish the job, I came around and sprinkled glitter on the glue.
