Today we celebrated Halloween at school. The costumes were wonderful and we all enjoyed the treats everyone brought. Thanks to Sara's mom who came to help. We will be celebrating Halloween at school tomorrow. Remember to send the party food and some clothes for changing out of costumes at lunch. Yesterday we filled the toy dinosaur jar so today was prize day. For our prize I brought in pumpkin cookie dough. Each child had a turn to place a cookie on the cookie sheet. While they baked we did a pumpkin life cycle cut and paste job. When they were done we all enjoyed a cookie and a cup of milk. This week I introduced the use of a draft notebook in our Read/Write Cycle. Children who have been writing complete sentences in their tiny books have earned the privilege of writing their next story in a draft book. Here they are asked to write several sentences on a topic of their choice. Once their writing is complete, they will have adult assistance with editing and proofreading. Then they can choose their publishing option. The choices are computer, typewriter, Alphasmart, iPad or Smartboard. They are very excited about these new options. Today your child brought home a notice about our next field trip. We are going to the Guildford Branch of the Surrey Public Library on November 19. I need the forms signed and returned quickly so that the library staff have time to prepare a library card for children who don't have one yet.
Today we introduced a new centre called hopscotch. The pictures are a little fuzzy because the kids move so fast! Today your child brought home their interim report. This report speaks about behaviour, work habits, independence and attitude. If you have any questions or concerns, please add them to the bottom of the report. These reports need to be signed and returned to school. We also talked about our upcoming Halloween party today. I allowed the children to choose what they would like to bring to share at the party. Your child has a notice about the party in their backpack today. I also need parent volunteers on Friday from 10:30-11:00. Let me know if you can help. Children may wear their costume to school on Friday but please send along a change of clothes as we will be changing before lunch. Parents remember to help your child count their completed pages in their green Home Reading notebook. Have them let me know when they reach 25 as I will award them a prize. Remind your child to include "scenery" or background details in their picture and use at least 5 colours. Here are a few examples of great work in Home Reading. Because of the professional development day this Friday, we will have our turn at the school library tomorrow instead. |
