Today we had a visit from two classes from Chantrell Creek. The visiting children worked as teachers for the children in our class and Mrs. Mitchell's class. We learned how to use apps like Skitch, Draw and Tell, Popplet, Magnetic Board, Screen Chomp, Pic Collage and Book Creator. Thanks to their teachers, Mrs. Betts and Mrs. Metz for organizing this wonderful shared learning experience. We had lots of fun on Friday skipping with our friends in our school "Jump Rope for Heart" session. Thanks to Christopher's mom who came to help turn the rope. It’s hard to believe, but the school year is drawing to a close. I always find this time of year very satisfying. The development I have seen in the children this year is quite remarkable. I hope you will keep the learning moving along for your child during the summer. Have them join the summer reading program at the public library. They would also enjoy visiting our most popular websites during the summer (Starfall and Illuminations Math Activities). During the next two weeks I will begin sending your child’s books and schoolwork home to try to avoid a large haul on the last day. Also, if your child’s birthday is in July or August, we will be celebrating their special day on the corresponding date in June. If you are planning on sending in treats for your child’s birthday, you might want to let me know to avoid doubling up. Here are the highlights for the final weeks of the school year. June 3 – School not in session June 5 – Our student leadership group is sponsoring a Pajama Day June 6 – Jump Rope for Heart: This is a whole school skipping event held in the afternoon to raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. I will need the assistance of a few parent volunteers to turn the rope for our skippers. Preschool siblings are welcome. Put a note in your child’s Home Reading book if you can help. June 11 – Parent Appreciation Tea 12:40. This event is hosted by the Dogwood staff. It is our way of thanking the many parent volunteers. The grade one’s will be performing at the tea. June 23 – Year end celebration at the spray park – weather permitting (notice coming home soon) June 24 – Board Game Day (children may bring in a board game they know how to play – no electronics please) June 26 – early dismissal and last day of school for children. The children are enjoying our new place value games. Each game provides the children practice in counting and representing numbers in tens and ones all the way to 100.
