We had a great day at the Vancouver Aquarium. We all enjoyed the bus ride as well as seeing the many sea creatures that live there. Thanks to the parents who came along to help.

Remember we are going on our field trip tomorrow to the Vancouver Aquarium. The bus is leaving right after morning attendance so please be on time. Children do not need to bring their backpacks or planners. Instead they need to have their lunch in disposable containers placed in a bag with their name on it. They should also have a small snack in their jacket pocket. For parents who are coming, please bring a bag or backpack large enough for your own lunch as well as three children's lunches.
Today I introduced two new math games to practice the concept of place value (tens and ones). The first game is called "Dab a Number". For this game, each child rolls two dice and uses a bingo dabber to mark the numbers they rolled. If they roll a 6 and a 2, they could mark either 26 or 62. The first player to have three in a row in their colour is the winner. In the demonstration game on the Smartboard, blue was the winner. The second game is called "Race to 100". This game is for 2 or 4 players. Each team has a place value board and a dice. They roll the dice to see how many one's blocks to add to the one's part of their board. They keep rolling and adding one's until they have ten. Then they trade for a ten's stick. They keep rolling and adding blocks until one team reaches 100 and grabs the only hundred's block. The children loved these games.
Today we performed the Bunny Hop dance in the gym. Each child had a turn to do the dance with a stuffed bunny while their partner took a video for them. Then they uploaded their own video to Freshgrade. Check out your child's portfolio to see their Bunny Hop!
The stations in the Action Room this month are designed to support track and field type activities. The activities are from a program called Run, Jump, Throw. The children are really enjoying them.
Today we celebrated Earth Day with Mrs. Mitchell's class. The children had a turn to paint a planet earth picture on their t-shirt, do an ocean animal puzzle, share their iPad books about saving the earth, go on a nature scavenger hunt and help in the garden with weeding and planting flowers. They loved it! Thanks to the many parents who came to help.
Today we performed the Chicken Dance in the gym. We think we are pretty awesome.
This Friday we will be celebrating Earth Day with Mrs. Mitchell's class. One of our activities will be to clean up the courtyard by pulling weeds and planting flowers. If your child has garden gloves or small tools, please send them to school on Friday. Thanks.
