We celebrated Halloween with costumes, treats, crafts and stories. We had a visit from Mrs. Watt's friend, Mrs. Funk, a retired teacher who shared a wonderful Halloween story. She brought some crazy glasses that helped us read really well. We enjoyed lots of yummy treats and participated in three craft projects with our friends in Mrs. Mitchell's class and Mrs. Sladek's class. Happy Halloween!

We had a great week at school. We wrote our own versions of the Itsy Bitsy spider, studied the body parts of a spider and compared several types of spiders. Today I sent home the permission letter for our next field trip to the Guildford branch of the Surrey Public Library. There you will find instructions for getting your child his/her own library card so that they can borrow books on the day of our tour (Nov. 14). Please return those forms to school next week. The children are really looking forward to our special Halloween activities. Students should wear their costumes to school on Oct. 31 (no accessories please) and bring a change of clothes in the backpack. We will serve the treats in the morning as our snack then go outside for recess. After recess we will be mixing with Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Sladek's classes for Halloween craft stations. Children will then change into their regular clothes just before lunch. Your child will still need their regular lunch on that day. Remember that tomorrow (Friday) is a professional day so no school for children. Have a great long week-end!
We had a perfect day at the pumpkin patch today. Thanks to the many drivers who assisted with this trip. We had a great time. We also celebrated Christopher's birthday today. Thanks to Christopher's mom who sent in yummy cupcakes to help us celebrate. Christopher even helped clean up the crumbs!
Parents, remember we are off to the pumpkin patch on Friday, October 18. Make sure your child is wearing boots to school. They will need a labelled grocery bag as well as a small snack in their jacket pocket. If you are not driving, you will need to send your child's booster seat to school.
This week we celebrated Thanksgiving by making a turkey using an apple and lots of yummy candies. Thanks Megan for helping with this craft.
Parents, remember to send one apple to school tomorrow for our yummy apple turkey craft. Gobble Gobble!
Last week the children learned about the changes that occur in leaves in the fall. We went outside and collected five colours of leaves (red, yellow, orange, green and brown). We came in and sorted the leaves, glued them to posters and chose our favourites to write in our leaf booklets.
Last week the children put the first two pictures on their t-shirts. In September we learned about the importance of washing our hands to prevent the spread of germs. To illustrate the point, one day we put glitter on one child's hand and then she shook hands with every other child in the class. Of course everyone had glitter (fake germs) on their hand by the end. As a memory of this lesson, we painted each child's hand with fabric paint and stamped it on their t-shirt. Then glitter was added to the wet paint. The October t-shirt picture is a spider as we will be learning about these amazing creatures this month. For the t-shirt picture, we used a rubber stamp of a spider and the children added their own eyes and fangs with fabric paint. Thanks to the parent volunteers who helped with this project. We will be adding a new picture to the t-shirts each month.
