Tomorrow our school will be holding its annual Terry Fox Event. All students will be given a map of Canada to take with them on a scavenger hunt around the school grounds. We will be looking for a table for each of the 10 provinces and 3 territories where they will get their map stamped. The tables will be set up all around the school grounds. When all the tables have been visited, the children will be finished. I would love to have a couple of parents join us to help children find their way. If you can help from 10:30-11:05 tomorrow, please put a note in your child's Home Reading book and come to the classroom at 10:30. Preschoolers welcome! Thanks.
Today we used a variety of math materials to make patterns. Thanks to the many parents who are returning the many forms sent home. I am collecting: Freshgrade permission forms, student medical forms, media consent forms and $15 for the class t-shirts. Thanks for getting those in so we can get rolling.
In math we have been working on patterns. Check out this pattern we made on our tape shape. This week we are collecting lots of things. I am still missing a few freshgrade permission forms. Thanks to the many parents who already sent in the $15 for the t-shirts. Also, grade one children brought home a package of forms today from the office. The medical/information forms should be checked for accuracy and signed. The media and tech forms need to be signed and returned. Thanks for getting those back right away. Kindergarten parents already signed these forms in the spring.
Today we learned about the "Zones of Regulation ". Mrs. Hunniford and Mrs. Keeper were talking about this program at the open house on Wednesday. Ask your child to tell you about the blue zone, green zone, yellow zone and red zone. Thanks to the many parents who returned the Freshgrade permission letter. Remember that Monday is a pro-d day
so there is no school for children. Have a great weekend. Today your child brought home their Freshgrade permission letter. I will be using freshgrade e-portfolios as a means of communicating student learning. It's very important that I get those forms signed and returned right away so that I can start uploading examples of your child's wonderful work. Thanks.
Tonight is our school is hosting the annual "Meet the Teacher Night" We are beginning with a barbecue sponsored by our PAC. Food items are available for purchase beginning at 5:30. Our classroom will be open for children to bring their families and show them around. There will be a short presentation in the gym and then the classroom will be open again. Please come and see where your child works each day and they can show you their favourite activities in school. I hope to see you tonight.
Today we sang our class rules song and found the rhyming words with a highlighter. Then we coloured the picture and put the paper in our new Reading Verses books. It was tricky because many children learned today how to put a paper in their duo-tang. I was very pleased with how they helped each other with this task.
Today we did a science lesson about how germs are spread. We watched a science cartoon about how germs travel from hand to hand. Then I sprinkled glitter on one child's hand. She went around the circle shaking hands with all the other children. We found out that the glitter (fake germs) ended up on everyone's hand! Then we worked in partners to trace our hand, colour it, then add glue and glitter to help us remember about germs.
