Welcome back from Spring Break. Report cards were sent home on Tuesday this week. Keep in mind that this term’s report is much shorter than the report you received in November. This is because of the new use of Freshgrade e-portfolios. Parents are encouraged to check their child’s portfolio on a regular basis and please share it with your child. If you wish to have a parent/teacher interview with me, please call the school to arrange a time. We are now well into the third and final term of the school year. Remember to help your child count their completed pages in their Home Reading book and tell them to let me know when they reach their prize for 100, 125, 150, etc. The theme for this month will be caring for our environment. We will focus on four distinct B.C. habitats (ocean, pond, forest and desert) looking at natural and human-made features of these environments. We will also celebrate Earth Day at school with a few special activities. Below are the highlights for the month of April. April 6 – Early Dismissal at 1:30 for Parent/Teacher Conferences April 13-16 – PAC Used Clothing Sale April 18 – Non-Instructional Day (new curriculum implementation) April 19-22 – Scholastic Book Fair in our library April 22 – Earth Day We have been doing gymnastics in the gym for the month of March. Thanks to our friends in Mr. Vilio's class for setting up the equipment every day. Today in math we sorted two dimensional shapes. First we sorted them by colour then by shape. Take a look at the photo and ask your child the sorting rule for the yellow ring. Remember we are going bowling tomorrow. If you are driving, come on into the classroom with your child at 8:30. If you are not driving remember to send your child's booster seat to school. At school we use a website for math games. The website is called "Illuminations Activities". I have a link to this website on my links page (tab at the top of your screen). On the Illuminations site there is a game called Concentration that we have used this week to practice our geometric shapes. There is also an app version of Concentration available for free for iPads, iPods and iPhones.
