Today at centres we started a special project called "The Buddy Bench". We started with an old garden bench and we are going to paint it as a special project about inclusion. Today we all had a turn to sand the wood with sandpaper. Tomorrow and Friday are painting days. Please send an old shirt to school to protect your child's clothes from the messy paint. I will send the shirts home when the project is finished.

This week we will be participating in a special painting project at school. The paint we will be using may not wash off clothing so I am asking parents to please send in an old shirt that will fit over your child's clothes to wear when it is their turn to paint. Thanks.
Today in science we learned about hibernation. Our university student volunteer, Lauren, read aloud a true book about animals and how they survive the winter by hibernating. Then she showed some pictures on the Smartboard and asked the children to choose one animal that hibernates and draw and colour it. Here is a sampling of their work.
Today in math we used our bowling toys to make equations. The children were put into groups of six and took turns rolling the ball to try and knock down the five bowling pins. After their turn they used a whiteboard to record their equation showing how many were up plus how many were down to make five.
Today in science we learned about animals that live in the desert of B.C. We talked about how they stay cool in this hot environment and how they stay safe from danger. Your child should know this animal. If they do, they can write the name in the comments section of this post and get a dinosaur in the jar tomorrow.
Today in math the children measured the length of their shoe using just one unifix cube. The challenge was to use their finger to mark the spot at the edge of the cube and keep repeating the cube down the length of their shoe. They took videos of their partner doing the task, then uploaded their own video to their Freshgrade portfolio!
The children have been challenged to play Okta's Rescue at home and post their top score in the comments section of this post. The link for the game is on the January 6 post. The game does not work on mobile devices but works on a laptop or desktop computer.
Today in math, the children measured their partner by using their hands. Because we only have two hands, we had to keep going hand over hand and count for the whole length of the body!
Also, just a reminder of the parent meeting tonight at 7:00. The topic is self-regulation and brain health in children. All parents are welcome. |
