Today we celebrated Easter with a hunt for sticks outside which were exchanged for jelly beans. Our class received 561 jelly beans to share. Two students in our class also received special prizes from our principal!

Today Clarissa finished her book about Amber. See her book below.
This Thursday morning I will be at Chantrell Creek school visiting a class that is actively using iPads in their daily routines. Our class will be taught by a TOC until lunch time when I will return. I am looking forward to see how other students use iPads.
Today Hamdan finished his book about trucks using the iPad. Click below to read his book. Today we had some fun stations with Mrs. Mitchell's class. The children worked in their Easter fun books, played with a new app on the iPads, painted an Easter egg on their t-shirts and made an Easter bunny door hanger decoration. Here are our cute bunnies.
Today Amber finished publishing her writing on the iPad. She wrote a book about her friend Clarissa. She took photos and a video of Clarissa to use in her book. The video won't play here as it is a PDF. She also used the draw function on the Book Creator app to add details to the photos. Well done, Amber. Click on the PDF below to see Amber's book.
Today we used the geometric solids to build a structure. Once the structures were finished, the children counted how many cubes, rectangular prisms, cylinders, cones, spheres and triangular prisms they used and entered the data in a chart. Here are some of our structures.
This month we are beginning a new math unit on geometry. We will review two dimensional shapes and investigate some three dimensional shapes. The children will explore spheres, cubes, cones, cylinders, rectangular prisms and triangular prisms. This week we predicted and tried out which geometric solids would roll and which ones would slide. The children chose a solid and released it down our ramp to see if it would roll or slide. Many children were surprised to see that the cone and cylinder could roll and slide. After the ramp test we grouped the solids.
This week we wound up our gymnastics unit. Students in Mr. Vilio's class kindly set up the climbing equipment every day for the last few weeks. Our class loved the rings, ropes, springboard and climbing apparatus. Many children learned how to do a flip while hanging from the rings! Here are some gymnastics photos.
This month I have introduced a new math routine called Entry Activities. On Mondays I show the children how to play four new math games intended to practice a variety of math skills. Since we have math right after recess, the children come right in after recess and begin playing their table's game for that day. The next three days the games are rotated so by Thursday they have all played each game. Next week I will introduce four new games. Here are the games they played this week.
