Today we celebrated Easter by going to three different Easter stations. The children in grades one, two and three were divided into groups and had a turn to make an Easter egg and chick card, play Musical Easter Eggs, play Easter Bingo and have Easter egg races. In the afternoon we had an Easter egg hunt. Happy Easter everyone.
This week we are continuing with counting big numbers by making groups of 10. Today we played a game called "Dollar Signs". In this game we set the timer for one minute and the children draw as many dollar signs as they can before the timer rings. Then they count their dollar signs by circling groups of ten then count by tens for the circles and count by ones for the leftovers. First I demonstrated on the Smartboard then the children worked on a whiteboard with a partner. For the last round they drew the dollar signs in their math book and did their own circling. This is an easy game to play at home.
Today our power went out at 8:00 so we had a delayed start. The power came back on at 9:40 and children started arriving. We only had 12 children in the class for the day. We made the most of it and regular lessons will begin again tomorrow. Thanks for your patience during this unusual situation.
This week we have been talking about what kids can do to save the earth. We brainstormed many things like turning off lights, composting, recycling, planting trees, etc. I typed all their suggestions on the Smartboard and the children chose four things they could do and recorded them in their drawing books. Watch for your child's finished work on their Freshgrade portfolio.
Just a reminder that tomorrow (Friday) is class photo day. Bring your smile!
