I am very pleased to see that most children are now writing a sentence about the book they chose for home reading. Below are some terrific examples of how to do home reading. These samples were chosen because they include scenery, at least 5 colours and a sentence of the child's own writing (not copied from the book). Today we peeled the seed coat off another seed to see the tiny plant inside. To enable all children to see while Naomi peeled the seed, I videotaped while she peeled and mirrored it up on the Smartboard (live). Then I took a photo of the inside of the seed and displayed the photo onto the Smartboard. Then we used the app Doodle Buddy to label the parts of the seed and did our own labelling in our seed booklets. Today we played our last game of pockets. We had 107 pockets all together! Everyone who remembered to wear something with a pocket got to put a dinosaur in the jar. That was just enough dinosaurs for a prize of 3 jellybeans each. Today we counted our pockets again. This time we had 89! Tomorrow we are trying to get over 100. Everyone who wears something with a pocket on Wednesday gets to put a dinosaur in the jar.
Today we peeled the seed coat from a bean seed and split it open. We saw the tiny plant starting to grow inside the seed. Then we went into our garden and planted 3 bean seeds in our soil filled cup. We cannot wait to see our plants sprout! Today we counted our pockets using unifix cubes. Our whole class had 54 pockets. We counted by making sticks of 10 then counted the tens and the leftovers. We will play again tomorrow and we are hoping for more pockets. |
