Today in math we sorted some geometric shapes. First we sorted by colour then by thickness. Our last sort was by size.
Today all Dogwood students in grades 1-7 participated in a school wide write. This is done once in the fall and again at this time of the year. Teachers assess students' writing skills based on the Ministry of Education performance standards. It is very exciting to see the improvement in writing since the fall assessment. This year our May topic for grade ones was to describe their plants. Here we are working hard on our writing. We use the hallway so there are no words on the wall to copy.....only their own fabulous spelling! We have been having a lot of fun playing the online game Okta's Rescue. In the game the children have practice counting, one to one correspondence and grouping into ten's. Here is the link so that your child can play at home.
We are getting excited about Games Day coming up on May 29. The Dogwood PAC will be providing one slice of pizza for lunch, an orange for snack and a freezie at the end of the day. A concession will be open for additional pizza and other treats. The children are asked to dress in their team colours on that day. Below are the colour groups for our class: Yellow: Katie, Naomi, Hadia, Felix, Joanna Blue: Sunwoo, Sonam, Ryan, Irene, Jacob Red: Kenzie, Morgan, Nkaia, Brady, Everett Green: Trayden, Umber, Nilix, Abigeyle, Joven Today in math we used the geometric solids to build a tall tower. The challenge was to work together and build the tallest tower possible using only the blocks I gave them. Then I went around and measured the towers with the meter stick. The red table's tower was 160 cm tall! |
