Today we found out how easily germs can be spread. First we watched a clip from Sid the Science Kid called The Journey of a Germ. Then the special helper put glitter (fake germs) on his hand and walked around the circle and shook hands with every other child. Soon everyone had glitter on their hand. Then we recorded our learning by tracing our hand in our drawing books and glued some glitter on our hand pictures.
The children are enjoying the wide variety of centres we have in our class. Ask your child to tell you where they like to play. Today we worked on patterns in math. First we made a big pattern with our bodies. Then the grade one children did some patterns in their math books while the kindergarten children used bingo dabbers to make patterns. At centres today a giant block castle appeared! Today we held our first school wide intruder alert. We had to close the blinds, lock the door and turn off the lights and Smartboard. Then we all had to crouch on the floor and stay very quiet until Ms. Paredes came on the speaker to give us the all clear. I was very proud of the great job my class did with this drill. It is hard for children this age to remain quiet and still for any length of time and they did a great job! Also, just a reminder to return registration forms, pumpkin patch permission slips and money. Thanks. We can't wait to show our classroom to our families. See you tonight at 6:00. Also, remember to bring an apple on Friday for a craft. Today the children filled the jar with toy dinosaurs and we all chose a prize from the treasure chest. Then we dumped out the dinosaurs are are now working on our next prize. Again tomorrow, any child who completes a page in their Home Reading book and brings it to school tomorrow will get to put a dinosaur in the jar. Here is a picture of some great home reading work.
Today your child brought home their Home Reading folder, notebook and notice. They were very excited to share their book with you. These books and the folder need to be returned to school each day. I told the class that all children who bring their Home Reading notebooks to school tomorrow with one page completed will get to put a dinosaur in the jar. This is part of a reward system I am using in the classroom and the jar is already almost full. When the jar is completely full, we will all get a prize. Also, this week we are collecting a bundle of forms including a media release form. I encourage parents to check "yes" on the media release as that will enable me to include your child's name or photo on the blog or the website. If you check "no" they will not be included in any blog posts. If you are unsure about this, please speak to me or check back on this blog to previous months to see the kinds of entries you might expect. Thanks.
