Today I added a few more math games to strengthen our sense of number. These children took turns rolling the dice and following the instructions to draw a snowman.

Today in science we learned about how the sun shines on the earth to make day on one side and night on the other. We turned out the lights and turned a flashlight onto the globe. Then we turned the globe slowly to show night and day in Canada.
Did you know old fashioned board games like Snakes and Ladders are great for developing number sense? This game was a big hit at centres today.
Today was the first day for our grade 11 work experience student, Nick. Nick is a former student of mine who will be helping out in the class for the next few weeks. Welcome, Nick.
Today we attended our school Remembrance Day assembly. It was very different than other assemblies we have had since we were not allowed to clap or cheer and the moment of silence was especially challenging. I am very proud of the great job the children did in showing tremendous respect to the occasion. I was especially proud of Aris and Elise who presented our wreath at the assembly.
Today in science we used the Smartboard to follow step by step to draw a poppy. Check your child's Freshgrade portfolio to see their poppy.
Today every child in the class had either a fruit or vegetable for their recess snack. Thanks parents for supporting us in our healthy eating plan!
Today I introduced four new math activities using dots and dice. Playing dice games at home like Snakes and Ladders are excellent activities to help reinforce your child's numeracy skills. Children who frequently play with dice can instantly recognize a set of dots in standard formation without needing to count.
For the month of November our science theme will be Light and Sound. Remember to help your child count their completed pages in their Home Reading books and to let me know when they reach 25. Many students have already received their prize for completing 25 pages and are now working toward 50. Thanks to the many parents who have been adding comments to their child’s Freshgrade portfolio. Keep in mind that this portfolio has replaced the traditional report card so it may not be the place for adding emojis. I hope that parents set aside some time once or twice a week to review the portfolio with their child so that you will stay informed of how your child is doing in school. Also, thanks for keeping the Halloween treats at home and continuing to send fruit for your child’s snack. Below are the highlights for the month of November.
